Privacy Policy
1. Introduction & Scope
Bolo is a voice-first job-search and recruitment platform that connects job seekers with employers across India. This Policy applies to every visitor and registered user of the Platform and is published in compliance with applicable Indian data-protection laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the “DPDP Act”) and the Information Technology Act, 2000 read with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
By accessing or using the Platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
2.1 Information you provide
- Mobile phone number and one-time passwords used for authentication.
- Profile details such as your name, city, preferred language, age range, and (for employers) company name and role.
- Voice recordings (up to 30 seconds) that you submit as a job seeker intro or as an employer job description, and the text transcripts derived from them.
- Application activity — the jobs you apply to, candidates you shortlist, and messages you initiate.
- Any communication you send to our support or grievance team.
2.2 Information we collect automatically
- Device information (model, operating system, browser, IP address, approximate location derived from IP).
- Usage data (pages viewed, features used, time spent, error logs).
- Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 9).
2.3 Information we derive
- Skills, job titles, locations and other entities extracted from your voice recordings to power matching.
- Match scores between seekers and job postings.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use personal data only for legitimate purposes, including:
- To create and authenticate your account and to operate the Platform.
- To transcribe your voice recordings and extract relevant entities (skills, experience, location, salary expectations, etc.) so we can match seekers and employers.
- To surface relevant job openings to seekers and relevant candidates to employers.
- To provide customer support and respond to grievances.
- To prevent fraud, abuse, spam, scraping and other prohibited activities.
- To improve our services, develop new features and train and evaluate our matching and ranking models.
- To send you transactional and service-related communications.
- To comply with applicable law and lawful requests from authorities.
4. Your Rights and How to Exercise Them
Subject to the DPDP Act and other applicable laws, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct or update inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Withdraw consent for further processing where consent is the basis of processing.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data. You can initiate account deletion in-app from your profile (Account → Delete My Account). You may also email our Grievance Officer (Section 13) to request deletion.
- Nominate a person to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity.
- File a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India.
We will respond to verified requests within fifteen (15) days, or such other period as may be prescribed by law.
5. Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only as described below:
- Between users. When you apply to a job, the employer sees the profile information, voice intro and transcript you have chosen to share. When you post a job, seekers see the posting and your company name.
- Service providers. We share data with vetted vendors who help us run the Platform — Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, hosted in regions including India), Google (Gemini Flash for speech-to-text and entity extraction), Razorpay (for any future paid features), and analytics or error-monitoring providers. These vendors process data only on our instructions.
- Legal compliance. We may disclose data when required by law, court order, or a lawful government request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Bolo, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, personal data may be transferred to the successor entity, subject to the terms of this Policy.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain personal data only for as long as it is necessary to provide the Platform and for the purposes described in this Policy, or as required by applicable law. When you request deletion of your account, we will mark your account for deletion and remove or anonymise associated data, except where retention is required for fraud prevention, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution or legitimate business purposes.
7. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including TLS encryption in transit, access controls, row-level security on our database, and hashed credentials. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we do not guarantee absolute security. Please notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account.
8. Children’s Data
The Platform is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact our Grievance Officer (Section 13) and we will delete it promptly.
9. Cookies & Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferred language, measure usage and improve the Platform. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may limit Platform functionality.
10. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Bolo uses AI and machine-learning systems to transcribe voice recordings, extract entities (such as skills and locations), match seekers and employers, and rank recommendations. By using the Platform, you acknowledge that your voice recordings and transcripts may be processed by such AI systems, including third-party AI services engaged on our behalf. Final hiring decisions are made by employers, not by Bolo’s algorithms.
11. Cross-Border Transfer
Some of our service providers (including AI processing partners) may process data outside India. Where this happens, we rely on contractual safeguards and on transfers to jurisdictions permitted under the DPDP Act and applicable law.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. We will provide notice of material changes through the Platform or by email where appropriate. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
